I hate group projects!

We are teaching our middle eastern history class tomorrow. We divided up the chapter, each of us were to prepare slides and three questions for our ten page sections, and email them to me by Friday. I finally got the last section a few minutes ago, and the stupid kid did my section! It's too late for me to contact him and make him do his own part, so I have to re-do my section. Immediately. So that I can fix our presentation for us tomorrow.

I hate him, I hate him, I hate him.

Or maybe just group projects.

1. WHERE WERE YOU 1 HOUR AGO? Reading The Poem of El Cid in preparation for a paper I have to write for my Middle Eastern history class
2. WHO WILL BE YOUR NEXT TO KISS? Ha. Who knows....
3. IS THERE ANYTHING PINK WITHIN 10 FEET OF YOU? Some of the beads in the earrings I wore a few days ago, which I took off at the computer desk and haven't bothered to put away. Also, the flowers on my slippers.
4. LAST TIME AT THE MALL? Last Friday. My roommate and I were bored, so we kidnapped some of our guy friends and made them go to IF with us.

6. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT OUT OF TOWN? I went to IF and Ririe for Thanksgiving, but that doesn't really count since they're both about 30 miles away. Other than that, I haven't left the area since I came to school in September.

11. Where do you keep your change? In a vintage enamel dish I got off Ebay. It's awesome, I should post pictures of all the great vintage finds I've gotten at the DI and on Ebay lately...hmmm...future post idea...
12. What’s the weather like today? It's cold and clear, but not as cold as it has been. The Weather Channel icon on my desktop says it's 32 degrees. Not bad.

35. Are you currently depressed? Sad, kind of, but depressed, no. My pills have been doing a good job of keeping the true depression demons away. Also the anxiety ones, which are worse.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I spent the day with a friend at two family dinners, his sister's house and his dad's house. It was fun, in an awkward sort of way. Most of his family had the initial impression that he was "bringing me home to meet the family" rather than just taking in a holiday orphan, and as soon as we explained it to someone, another person would come up and have the same assumption. So there was lots of "No, we're not dating. We're friends." And then a long, drawn out explanation of how we know each other, why I didn't go home, etc.

Today I...

  • Ran a seven minute mile. This isn't too impressive unless you know me. I do not run. I walk. Sedately. There is seldom, if ever, power walking involved, even. But today I was super late for class, and my car had enough gas to get to the gas station around the corner, but nowhere else, so it was walk or skip. Skip not being an option. I left the apartment at 7:45, which is when my class started, and literally booked it all the way up the stupid steep hill to the Ricks by 7:52. With my bookbag banging against my hip all the way. And checking my phone every three seconds to see how late I really was. The answer was very.
  • Made snowflakes for our windows.
  • Made kindergarten hand cutout thankful for turkeys at family home evening, with which we created a gratitude turkey mobile, if you will.
  • And, best of all, rode this. Betty Buell. My friend Mo's new bike. I've never been on a motorcycle before! It was cold and windy, but so exciting. I can't wait till he has time to take me out on the highway and gorealfast. I wanted to yell YAHOOOOOO!!!!! all the time, but I decided to save Mo's ears and refrained.

Burn Out, Senioritis, whatever you want to call it...

My friend Betty wrote recently that she is slacking (Betty! Slacking! Inconceivable! :) ). I've heard this sentiment from many of my friends from high school, and I'm completely feeling the same way. I realized, however, that we are in our seventeenth consecutive year of school. K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, freshman, sophomore, junior, and now, senior. And many of us are continuing on to graduate school. School is not only our lives, it's the only thing we know. We're good at school, or at least we try really hard and pretend to be good at school. But now, wow. We thought we had senioritis bad our senior year of high school, but it was nothing. Now I, and many of my old friends have what may be termed as early-onset senioritis. Senioritis that I fear may continue until graduation and beyond.

This is officially November 8th's post

because I haven't gone to bed yet, but I've been supremely busy all day.

What to write about...well, my roommates and half our neighbors are going on a group date on Saturday. A major group date. And I can't find one. Every guy I know anymore is married, dating someone, engaged, busy, and/or in another state or country. All the guys in my major are married, except the 45-year-old divorced guy, and umm, no. I work with a guy who keeps trying to ask me out, but a, he only asks me out because his brother-in-law who I used to work with thinks we should get married, and b, we're not allowed to date because it's against office policy. I thought of a guy who I could ask, but I texted him, and he already has a date Saturday evening. So I'm a loser and will probably be hiding out in my room Saturday night watching movies on my laptop while all my 18-year-old roommates go on dates.

What I want to know is, when did all my guy friends get so unavailable and where was I when this happened?

Oh boy. I complain too much.

Good News/Bad News

Good News: My car is fixed already!

Bad News: It was $454.85.

Good News: My parents volunteered to pay for the repairs.

Bad News: They also lost one of my tire air valve cover things. And they don't have it in stock, and they have to come from the manufacturer. In China. I said I'd just go to Kragen.

Good News: This is a homework free zone today.

Bad News: I've spent most of the day sitting in the same spot watching movies and goofing around on the internet.

Good News: I'm making something scrumptious for dinner.

Bad News: I'm not hungry anymore.

It's Finally Friday!

Halle-freakin-lujah.

I was really really late for class this morning, so I drove. Unfortunately, my registration tags are expired (I paid my registration a month ago, but the tags haven't come yet. The joys of out of state license plates.), and I don't actually have a parking permit to park on campus. I parked in a way far away lot that nobody ever parks in, hoping I wouldn't get a ticket or a boot. I got a parking ticket. Only $10, but still. So then, I back out of my space, and my car shudders a little bit. It wouldn't go into drive, and it wouldn't go in reverse anymore. I get out, and my driver side front tire is completely flat. But my car should still go, so I went around to the other side of the car, and the strut on the passenger side front wheel had broken. As in, my wheel/tire was like at a 30 degree angle from the ground. As in almost horizontal. The strut pole-thingy and spring were poking out the side.

So I freak out, start crying, because that's what I do, and called my daddy. Because daddys can fix anything, even from 700 miles away. He's like, umm, that's why we have Triple-A, call them. So I call them, the tow truck comes, and he takes me and my car to Les Schwab. The guy there took my name and number and I walked home (luckily it's only like eight blocks), carrying all the crap from my car that I need. Like my textbooks and junk and stuff. Then the guy from Les Schwab calls me, and it's going to be between $415 and $500. Because they have to replace the strut and bracket on the passenger side, and the driver side ones are looking like they're going to go, so they're going to do them too, and then the axle got messed up when the strut broke, and then they have to realign it. So depending on the amount of axle damage and the amount of time it takes to fix all these problems, it's going to be about $450 more than I have. Thankfully, my parents have agreed to pay for the repairs, at least for mow. But I hate taking money from them. I've taken maybe $100 my whole last three years of university, and I don't like it. I can support myself.

Mostly.

Except when my car breaks.
